Golf Across Greater Pittsburgh
One of the best things about golf in the Pittsburgh area is the variety. Within 30 to 60 minutes of downtown, you can play everything from tight, tree-lined courses in the suburbs to wide-open layouts in the countryside. Here is what each region has to offer.
City and Nearby
Courses closest to downtown Pittsburgh and the surrounding boroughs. These are your go-to options when you want to play without a long drive. Expect more compact layouts and quicker rounds. Great for after-work golf if you work in the city.

North Hills
The North Hills corridor from Ross Township up through Cranberry and Wexford has some of the busiest golf in the region. Cranberry Highlands is the anchor course here, but there are several other options ranging from executive courses to full 18-hole layouts.
If you live north of the city, you are spoiled for choice. The downside is that weekend tee times book up fast, so plan ahead.
South Hills
The South Hills has a mix of county-operated courses and private options. South Park Golf Course is the headliner for public golfers. The area south of the city also has some hidden gem nine-hole courses that locals guard jealously.
East (Murrysville and Beyond)
Heading east from Pittsburgh toward Murrysville, Greensburg, and Ligonier opens up some excellent golf. Champion Lakes is the standout here, but the entire corridor has quality options. The terrain gets more dramatic as you move east into the foothills, which makes for interesting golf.
West (Beaver County)
Beaver County is home to Quicksilver Golf Club, which has hosted professional events and is considered one of the best public courses in the region. Beyond Quicksilver, the area west of Pittsburgh has a good mix of public and semi-private options at various price points.
Butler and Cranberry
The Butler County area north of Cranberry Township has seen a lot of growth, and the golf options have grown with it. You will find a mix of established courses and newer layouts that cater to the growing population in this corridor.

Laurel Highlands
If you are willing to drive 45 minutes to an hour east, the Laurel Highlands offers some of the most scenic golf in Western Pennsylvania. The mountain terrain adds elevation changes and views you will not find closer to the city. Fall golf out here is particularly spectacular.
