League golf is how a lot of people around here actually play. You get a standing weekly tee time, the same group each week, and nine holes after work without having to organise anything. Most leagues in the region run from late April into August, play nine holes, and tee off in the early evening on a fixed weekday. Formats vary between straight stroke play, match play against another pair, and points systems that let weaker players stay competitive through handicaps. Sign-ups happen early. If you are looking to join, contact the pro shop in February or March, because rosters for the coming season are usually settled before the snow clears. Courses will often place a single golfer with a group that needs a fourth.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do Pittsburgh golf leagues start?

Most begin in late April or early May and run through August, weather permitting. Sign-ups typically open in February and March.

Do I need a handicap to join a league?

Usually not to join. Many leagues establish a handicap for you over your first few weeks so that scoring stays fair across different ability levels.

Can I join a league on my own?

Yes. Tell the pro shop you are looking and they will often slot you into a group that is short a player, or into an individual league where pairings rotate.
